I am told the thrities are the best time of life, so I'm intending to explore that! I live in the glorious capital of the U.S., about a mile from the Capitol. I work in the real estate field and have a background in both city planning and English/editing. Many of my interests hinge on these fields. I love cities and architecture and urban life. I also love literature, poetry, writing, and books. When I go shopping, my number one favorite thing to shop for is furniture and household goods. The amount of time I spend thinking about decorating and such, you'd think I was either working as a designer or that I had an expansive home. (Neither is true!) My second favorite thing to buy is craft supplies...I like crafts, even if I don't do them as often as I'd like. I grew up in Western PA near Pittsburgh, a fact that I feel permeates my life (I mean that in a good way, I think). I am a proud member of the brain drain of Pennsylvania--all of my education happened in the Keystone State. Part of me thinks of returning some day--we'll see how that plays out!
About the blog name: I suffered greatly trying to decide on a name. I chose compass and coffee spoons. The "compass" part of it refers to one of my prized possessions, a compass my grandfather gave me. It's such a simple thing, but to me it reflects choosing direction in my life and learning from my past. The coffee spoons comes from a line in T.S. Eliot's "Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock": "For I have known them all already, known them all--/Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons,/I have measured out my life with coffee spoons..." I expect that my blog will look at all those small moments and things that in the end, amount to a life...
